Your Quick Summary of the Renters’ Rights Bill

The Renters Rights Bill has now cleared its second Reading in the Commons and you can read the full text of the debate here

A key point made by Matthew Pennycook, Housing Minister during the debate was “…. it will take time for the sector ……….. to adjust to a significant change in regulation. We will appoint the commencement date by regulations at an appropriate interval after Royal Assent. Our intention is to give the sector as much notice as possible."

There is some way to go yet on finalising the provisions in the Bill and amendments may yet be made. The main course of action at present is to continue, as always, supporting landlords and tenants who might feel unsettled by the uncertainty surrounding this Bill.

Our regulatory body Safeagent and their solicitors, Henriques Griffiths have produced a concise summary of the provisions in the Bill which we can share with you.

The Bill now moves to the Committee stage and we will keep you updated on progress.

Any questions then of course please reach out.
